About Us

Society for Development of Subtropical Horticulture was registered in 2002 and housed at ICAR-CISH, Lucknow. The society has been led by luminaries of horticulture such as Prof. R.K. Pathak, Dr. B.M.C. Reddy, Dr. H. Ravishankar and Dr. Shailendra Rajan as President of SDSH. The society aims to create awareness and disseminate knowledge and technologies of horticulture in the subtropics of India. Presently, the Executive Body consists of following officials The Society for development of Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow is a non profit, non-government organization which was established to cater the development of subtropical Horticulture. The Society has organized several national and international conferences, seminar, symposium, workshops, brainstorming sessions etc. Society also organizes farmers' goshthees, scientist-farmers meetings, stakeholders' meets and conducts buyer-seller meet in order to boost subtropical horticulture. The society is housed at ICAR-CISH, Lucknow.

Objectives of SDSH

  1. To organize seminar, symposium, national dialogues, farmer-scientist interaction meetings, kisan melas, gosthis and field days related to subtropical horticulture.
  2. To promote and hand hold entrepreneurs, FPOs, FPCs, SHGs and CBOS in horticultural technologies.
  3. To encourage academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs and students through fellowships, young scientist awards, innovation award etc.
  4. To spread horticulture research by publishing bi-annual, peer reviewed journal.

Events Organised

The ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), Lucknow is a premier research institute under the aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and is conducting research work on various aspects of subtropical horticulture especially on fruits like mango, guava, aonla, bael, jamun and some minor/underutilized fruits for improving productivity and profitability of farmers in subtropical regions of India. It is located at Rehmankhera under Kakori Post Office on Lucknow-Hardoi road in the vicinity of Malihabad, the famous Dashehari mango belt of Uttar Pradesh. The institute has well equipped infrastructure and trained scientific and technical personnels to conduct research on subtropical horticulture. ICAR-CISH is presently recognised as DUS Centre by PPV&FRA, New Delhi for mango, guava, jamun, aonla and bael.
SDSH organized the First International Symposium on guava in collaboration with ISHS, Belgium during 5-8 December, 2005 at Hotel Taz Vivanta, Lucknow. More than 300 researchers from India, France, Mexico, Malaysia, Nepal and Bangladesh. Research papers presented during the symposium were presented in Acta Horticulturae, volume 735, 2007. SDSH organized the Global Conference on Augmenting Production of Mango: Biotic and A Biotic Stress in collaboration with ICAR-CISH, Lucknow, ISHS, Belgium and NABARD, Mumbai during 15-18 March, 2015 at Lucknow.
Society organized Mango Fair at NASC, New Delhi during 04 July, 2015 in which 200 mango varieties were displayed. SDSH organized National Seminar cum Workshop on Physiology of Flowering of Subtropical Fruits in collaboration with ICAR-CISH, during 24-26 May, 2016 at Lucknow Society organized National Conference on Strategies, and Challenges in Doubling Farmer’s Income through Horticultural Technologies in Subtropics in collaboration with ICAR-CISH, NHB and MIDH during June 21-22, 2018

National Seminar on 7-8 March, 2025

“Resource Use Efficiency for Sustainable Fruit Production in Subtropics” There will be five Technical Sessions in the Seminar. Each session will have keynote address and Lead lectures from experts. In each session there will be a panel discussion on thematic areas.
